Ancient Way Fall Festival October 4 & 5 (11 & 12), 2008 The Ancient Way Fall Festival continues to evolve and this year promises even more interesting/fun/stimulating events than ever! Though most Festival events along our Ancient Way Arts Trail will occur on October 4th and 5th, several others will occur on the following weekend, October 11th and 12th. Iron Ave., just north of Santa Fe Avenue in downtown Grants. Date: Saturday, October 11th, 2008 Featuring: a 33 mile all-paved tour along Highway 53, the Ancient Way linking Acoma and Zuni Pueblos; prizes for top finishers - participants receive t-shirts; $30.00 fee; Proceeds from the race fund the Dennis Moleres Scholarship Fund managed by the Grants/Cibola Chamber of Commerce. Bring a flashlight, jacket, gloves, and water. Wear long pants and sturdy boots. Helmets will be provided. Tours are limited to 20 people, so arrive early. Date: October 11; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. At the Information Center on Highway 53. Come in for bargains on unique books about geology, history, local cultures, and other elements of the southwest! Also, a rug weaving demonstration will be conducted by weavers from Ramah Navajo from 10 to 3; rugs will be available for purchase as well. Contact: (505)-783-4774 El Morro National Monument RANGER LED HIKES Dates: October 4 & 5; 10 a.m. - 12 a.m. Join us for a ranger-led hike to the top of El Morro! This is a two mile, slightly strenuous hike. Bring water and wear good walking shoes. Meet at the El Morro Visitor Center. Guided hikes are free, but the $3 per adult park entrance fee applies.
